“Glabellar complex” or “Glabella” is the name given to the area between the eyebrows where creases, both vertical and horizontal, form under the effect of the four muscles of the brows.
With time, the creases in the glabellar complex may result in the lowering of the medial aspect of the eyebrows which causes wrinkling and formation of the so-called glabella lines that extend up to the central forehead. Glabellar lines make their first appearance early in life, initially only as dynamic lines when frowning. Intense frowning of the central brow can be misinterpreted by others as a veritable frown, which usually expresses negative feeling such as concern, tiredness, disappointment, anger.
Glabellar lines tend to make people look older and angry, although their shape and angle may vary depending on the individual musculature.
